Summer Solstice

Today is the summer solstice, longest daylight in the northern hemisphere and the opposite in the southern hemisphere.  Summer starts in the north, winter in the south.  I finished four cabochons.  Started with nine, but all the yellow quartz had too many fractures to stay in one piece.  The yellow quartz went into the driveway.  The other four were completed.  All started out as 20 x 15 mm ovals, but one had a piece fly off, so it became a tear drop shape and is 19 x 14 now.  Cutting stones is very relaxing and I love the results.

These three are fossilized palm tree.  The fourth is a piece of Jadeite.

Tiger Paw Ring

Here in town, there is a lady who resells jewelry made primarily in Asia, who asked me to design and make a ring that would resemble the tiger paw emblem used by Clemson University.  Clemson usually has a paw with white on an orange background.  Finding an orange metal would be nigh on impossible, so instead, I chose to use orange stones on white metal.

The orange stones are laboratory created sapphires and the metal is Sterling silver.  As the paw pad, I use a 7 mm trillion stone and the four toes are 6 x 4 mm oval stones.  I made her the first in size 7 which fits on her finger. She has already received an order for another one.  Hopefully, several folk will like the design and fabrication that I do and order some more.

Just a Little Catching Up

Been out of commission for a while, now catching up a little.  We are making some Clemson specific items.  After all we are only a few miles from the University so Debora has been designing in orange, white and purple, the school colors.  These will be available on our Handmade Artists shop.  I've designed and am making the first tiger paw ring with orange sapphires being set in Sterling Silver.  That will be taking several more days/weeks; waiting for some backordered 10 gauge wire to make the shank.  Here is Debora's latest Clemson necklace:
